About  US

History

In the fall of 1975, Wayne Gordon began teaching and coaching at Farragut High School on  Chicago’s Westside. At that time, Wayne moved into an apartment in the North Lawndale  Community and began a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Bible Study. From this core group of  high school students and a mother of several of the boys, the idea of starting a church was first  conceived. Wayne and Anne Gordon agreed and with a meeting of fifteen people in March of  1978, Lawndale Community Church moved from a dream to a reality. With an emphasis on  reaching unchurched community residents and relevant ministry, Lawndale experienced  tremendous ministry growth, often described as the Lawndale Miracle. In 2023, after 45 years,  Wayne and Anne Gordon retired from pastoral leadership and Lawndale Christian Community  Church excitedly welcomed its new leaders, Jonathan and Micheál Brooks.

Purpose

The purpose of Lawndale Christian Community Church (LCCC) is to create a community of  Christ followers transformed by the life changing reality of the gospel. LCCC is a non denominational Christian church that provides a place to worship and strongly places importance  on a personal relationship with God through His son Jesus Christ and growth in Him through the  study of God’s Word- the Bible. We believe the local church is to be a witness of Christ’s gospel  by meeting the spiritual, mental and physical needs of the surrounding community through  continual involvement in people’s lives.

LCCC Mission

Loving God & Loving People

MISSION OF LCC
LCCC’s mission is to show and share the love of Jesus in Chicago’s Lawndale community. We seek to bring Christian, (w)holistic revitalization to the lives and environment of North Lawndale residents through Christian discipleship, economic empowerment, housing improvement, educational enrichment, restorative justice and quality affordable health care.
VISION OF LCC
LCCC envisions a future when “Loving God and Loving People” undergirds the attitude’s and  actions of North Lawndale residents; when existing community residents are empowered to live  in harmony and security; when vacant lots and abandoned buildings are converted into new,  affordable homes, rehabbed apartments and resident owned businesses; when the majority of  homes are owner occupied; when high school and college graduations are accepted expectations;  when job skills and employment opportunities abound; when all people have access to justice  that restores, quality affordable health care, and where JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!
