LCCC Missions

At Lawndale Christian Community Church (LCCC), we believe in living out the Great Commission—locally and globally. The LCCC Missions page highlights the stories of individuals and families connected to our church who have answered the call to serve on missions trips around the world.
Whether they are long-time members or visiting missionaries sharing their journey, this page exists to celebrate their work, share their experiences, and show who LCCC is supporting in the mission field. Through their stories, we hope to inspire and encourage others to pray, give, and go—spreading the love of Christ to every nation.

The Mark of Grace in East Asia

[The ruler from Bethlehem] will stand and shepherd his flock...and they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach the ends of the earth.
And he will be their peace.
Micah 5:4-5

GOOD NEWS: PEACE (AS NOT SEEN ON TV)

Since September, as part of a larger women's Bible study of Acts, I’ve been leading a dozen ladies around a table. We are a diverse group, coming from 8 different countries, with 2 seekers and 2 others who have dealt with broken marriages, and of course we all have various struggles. In the midst of this life’s trials, however, I was encouraged last week in our study by Acts 11:35–38, which talks about the good news of peace through Jesus, who welcomes those from every nation who fear Him and do what is right. These themes fit right in at Christmas, from the Prince of Peace giving light to those living in the shadow of death (Isaiah 9:1–7), to the angels’ blessing of peace in announcing Jesus’ birth (Lk 2:14), to Simeon’s praise upon seeing baby Jesus, God’s salvation, for Gentiles and Jews alike (Lk 2:28–32). While we may be tempted to seek peace in earthly things, may we more and more put our complete trust and hope in Jesus, bringing His good news of peace to all, from every nation, with glory to God in the highest!

BHUTANESE BEGINNINGS

With the Unruhs, mobilizing for missions OMF
This succinct statement summarizes why the Unruh family, including 1-year-old Cyrus, arrived in Asia last week to begin long-term service in Japan.
Grace has been working with them for the past couple years to launch them there, walking with them through the appointee process with OMF as they got their support and other necessary details together.
They are from our area originally and met at a nearby Bible college, spent two years on Operation Mobilization's ministry ship, then felt the call to long-term missionary service.
More details of their story can be heard on OMF's podcast that featured them in June, available at this link:
https://omf.org/us/praying-for-japan-leads-to-going-to-japan.
Their humility and obedience inspire us too as we regularly ask ourselves what the Lord is calling us to do that we would be being disobedient if we didn't do.
After all, as Jesus reiterated, "You are my friends if you do what I command." (John 15:14)

News From Shane & Eden

Dear Friends,
We hope this message finds you well. We wanted to take a moment to update you on our family’s journey as we continue to navigate some changes and opportunities. Your partnership has been such a blessing to us, and we’re grateful to have you in our lives.

We are coming up on a year in San Antonio for home assignment. It has been a mix of both rewarding and challenging experiences. It’s been a time of equipping, personal growth and adjustment—good and difficult in its own ways. We are grateful for the ways God is working in our lives during this transition, showing us His faithfulness even in the hard moments. We are all acclimating to life in America. Celebrating progress and healing while honoring the journey. We just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary.

Displaced teen girl grips donkey's scruff
Dressed in sun-robe glow, her feet rest on moon
Disgraced. Does scarf hide pregnant belly enough
Diadem of stars adorns her face, waiting galaxies swoon
To knock and wrangle shelter from the hostile night?
And watching angels gasp as dragon gapes.. to bite?
The multiverse hinges
On a labor pain
Evil cringes
As earth and heaven, no longer twain...
Birth hope.
The quanta join.. in cry, in dust, in blood, in straw,
In hosts on high chorusing trust, in flood of awe
That the star-shattering dragon is for all time deposed
By amniotic wondrous mess, the chasm closed.

Dear Praying Friends-
Joseph's dreams and Mary's encounter with the intruding angel sparked their journey into the unknown of an imposed census, a distant
trek to an unfamiliar town, unhoused on arrival, at the mercy of biology and politics. Those visions, tiny corners of the veil peeled back
for a few minutes back in Nazareth, must have been at best foggy memories by the time the couple found themselves delivering a
newborn in a cave sheltering farm animals. The birth story in Luke 2 unfolds in obscure struggle, while that in Revelations 12 paints a
heavenly battle. Different pictures of the times. . . just as the lived experience in Palestinian areas in 2024 contrasts with the Christmas
tree setting in most of our homes.
And yet. . . . Both are true.

Our steps wandering and slow take us right through the gritty hardships of life in a marred and broken world. 2024 on the surface has
been rough. And yet. . . this Christmas story reminds us that more is at stake then what we can see and touch.
No matter how bleak the tangible present seems, there is a bigger story unfolding.
This year we said goodbye to almost our entire Bundibugyo team. We and faithful Ann Kieser remain, holding up the fundraising, conflict
negotiations, and community bridging jobs of Christ School, BundiNutrition, and BundiWater gravity scheme project. Keeping World
Harvest Mission Uganda's base for Bible translation, church strengthening, women's business for transformation, etc. as the sole
representatives on the ground most of the year. We spent days, weeks, months in our own painful labor of unprecedented complications
with Uganda's banking systems, government taxation changes, new paperwork registration requirements. And it's not over. While also
juggling our Area's woes, and contributing to the bigger struggle of Serge in the world. It all felt a lot closer to donkey scruff and stable
dust than to crowns of stars.
Our daughter-in-law let us read one of her graduate theology papers yesterday, and she said perseverance is resistance. By God's
mercy, we are grateful that your prayers and kindness have enabled us to stay on this Bethlehem road. "I Cheerfully Refuse" (the title of
one of my favorite books this year) to despair or compromise with the dragon. . instead we enter December believing that the cosmic
hidden story of love is actively overcoming death. Cheerfully even, refusing to give up on peace on earth, goodwill to men.
With love,
